Time for another Membership Spotlight! This month we’re honored to spotlight the 2017-2018 AAF of the Midlands Member of the Year recipient, Megan Telencio. Megan served on the Board of Directors for our club from 2010-2016. During that time she either lead or assisted nearly every single club committee. Currently she serves as the Lt. Governor for AAF District Three. For the past 10 years, Megan has worked at Lamar Advertising Company where she’s a Senior Account Executive.
We reached out to Megan Telencio for a quick interview to learn more about Lamar Advertising Company and hear why she’s involved with AAF. Here’s what she had to say:
AAF: Tell us about your company.
Megan Telencio: Founded in 1902, Lamar Advertising Company (Nasdaq: LAMR) is one of the largest outdoor advertising companies in the world, with more than 340,000 displays across the United States, Canada and Puerto Rico. Lamar offers advertisers a variety of billboard, interstate logo, transit and airport advertising formats, helping both local businesses and national brands reach broad audiences every day. In addition to its more traditional out of home inventory, Lamar is proud to offer its customers the largest network of digital billboards in the United States with over 2,800 displays. Locally in the Midlands, we’re proud to offer the largest portfolio of locations, both permanent as well as digital billboards, and exclusive programs unique to our company.
AAF: What’s the best part about working at Lamar Advertising Company?
Megan Telencio: The best part about working at my company is that I do truly feel it’s “my company”. We may be one of the largest outdoor advertising companies in the world with all the advantages of a support staff, but we have the local autonomy to run like a small local company. I run my schedule day to day as if I am the owner of my own small business and work hard to make sure the clients I work for get results and individual attention. It’s the beauty of a large company that still keeps the personal touch.
AAF: Share a fun fact about your company most people wouldn’t know.
Megan Telencio: We’ve partnered with a company named Rareform that repurposes billboard vinyls into bags and other merchandise. Because every vinyl is different, each item is unique and it’s wonderful to give the vinyls second life!
AAF: How long have you been a member of the AAF?
Megan Telencio: Since 2009.
AAF: Why are you a member of the AAF?
Megan Telencio: AAF has always given me a competitive edge in the industry. It helps round out my industry knowledge with the variety of luncheon topics as well as serving as a wonderful place to network with other industry professionals. AAF has afforded me the opportunity to convert casual business acquaintances into wonderful friends that share my same passion about advertising.
AAF: What’s your favorite AAF event or initiative?
Megan Telencio: My favorite event is a tie between the American Advertising Awards Gala and the Kickoff event. At the gala, I love celebrating the amazing advertising that we do here locally and I am so impressed by the work our local ad community produces.
I also enjoy the Kickoff event because I know it means a new season of great luncheon speakers. I enjoy the local art and getting to meet back up with so many influencers in the advertising industry all in one spot.
